CASE STUDY: Industrial Traceability - Gyptec SA
Scope:
The Gyptec Ibérica started the construction of a factory for gypsum boards production (pladur) in Figueira da Foz. Following the definition of production and quality processes it emerge the need to create a system that would make the control of production / traceability of gypsum boards throughout the whole production process.
To solve this problem, the responsible contacted LogicPulse and instigate the challenge to develop a system that would control the raw-materials and the finished products flow, inside the factory. These are the specified requirements for the system: the system needs to be based on bar code technology, with the possibility to, in the future, work with RFID; during the manufacturing process, a set of information has to be printed in the board, by using an ink jet printer, especially for industrial purpose; the finished product pallets have to leave the factory properly identified; the whole information produced should be injected into the information system that would be installed at the factory.

The solution:
The solution is an integrated system that includes the bar code hardware (readers, printers and labels), the industrial ink-jet printer, the support hardware, the mobile terminals (Pocket PCs) and the application software (factory.track).
Main functionalities of the developed system:
- It makes possible the uniquely raw-materials identification (by using the lot number or other) , when it arrives at the company;
- It allows the adding of products to the list of daily production;
- For each ended product of the production list, it allows you to choose, through various relevant data (validity date, supplier, etc), the raw-material necessary for production;
- After the production of material, it allows you to store all the data related to the final product;
- It allows you to add customers orders and to satisfy these orders with the existing stock products;
- It helps the company, if necessary, in the quick identification of the causes of the “problems” reported by customers, because it quickly provides the appropriate records in order to quickly identify the products in a certain lot (inside the company or in the customers that are supplied with the same lot) and allows the identification the suppliers form which resulted in the raw-material used in that lot.

Results:
The utilization of the traceability system lets you know, in real time, what is being produced and with what raw-materials. It is also possible, in real time, evaluate the quality/profitability of raw-materials by supplier and, if someone reported a problem with a particular board, let you know, in an easy and quickly way, which were the raw-materials used in its production, and in what location of other boards produced with the same raw-materials.
Thus, the system allows more informed decision making, a greater control and transparency in production (saving time and resources) and enhances customer satisfaction.
